1979: The canyon acquired its name from an adobe built by Indian workers for
William Hood, the first American owner of the Los Guilicos grant. Built as a
stage stop, it is believed to be the birthplace of the First American baby form
in the valley. Remains of this structure crumbled in the early 1970s. The canyon
was once part of the original Los Guilicos Grant owned by Hood until 1868. A
Mr. Reynolds built the first road down the canyon from his ranch. It was
originally called Kenwood Springs.
